Obituary for Paolo Altieri

Paolo Altieri, 79, of Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Paolo is survived by his four sons, John-Paul (Amy), Anthony (Stephanie and grandchildren Kyle and Amelia), Marco (and his grandson Cristiano), and Stephen (Lenka and grandchildren Dante and Avalon), as well as his sister Angela DeLuca and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In death, Paolo is reunited with his loving wife, Carol, who predeceased him by almost twenty years. Paolo was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to many.

Paolo immigrated to the US from Faeto, Foggia, Italy over fifty years ago. Despite incredible hardship in his new home country, Paolo met Carol in Rochester and created a large and loving family. The Altieri home was marked by equally boisterous laughing and arguing – a hallmark of a family that cared deeply for each other. Paolo was a role model to his children, as he showed them the importance of hard work and commitment. Despite being deprived of the opportunity for a formal education himself, he motivated his sons to strive for excellence. He took pride in the successes of his boys – who all graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School and cumulatively earned eleven collegiate degrees from esteemed universities such as Yale, Boston College, University of Florida, and the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business, including three doctorates. His sons include a CEO, law firm partner, university vice president, and a program manager. Paolo loved sports, especially soccer. His two passions were his beloved Italian National team and the club AC Milan. He worked at General Motors for almost 30 years, before enjoying two decades of retirement, in which he took great joy in relaxing and seeing his grandchildren. Paolo was truly a special man who loved to make wine, cook sauce, and share the joys of everyday life. While his tough nature allowed him to overcome great obstacles in life, he was truly a caring and loving man who ended every visit with a hug and every call with an “I love you.”
Friends may call WEDNESDAY from 5-8PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates.
