Byrnes, Bernard J.
Rochester: Sunday, April 19, 2020, at age 98. Predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Massaro; brother, Robert Byrnes. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Eleanor Byrnes; children, Kathleen (Angelo) Massaro, Michael (Tracy) Byrnes; grandchildren, Carrie Massaro, Emily Massaro, Travis (Sari) Byrnes, Ryan Byrnes; great grandsons, Cody and Duke.
Mr. Byrnes served in WWII as a top turret gunner on a B26 Bomber. He flew 42 missions and received numerous honors for his service. After the war, he returned to work at Delco Products where he was a founding member of IUE Local 509. He served as a zone committee man, helping numerous people over his 42 years of service. He also served as a Rochester City fireman from 1953-1956. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandsons. His family would like to thank the staff at NYS Veterans Home in Batavia for their exceptional care.
Services and interment are private. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
