Obituary for Dominic A. Tarasco

Tarasco, Dominic A.
Rochester/Gates: Saturday, January 22, 2022. Predeceased by his wife, MaryAnn (Lupinetti) Tarasco; son, Fred Tarasco; parents, Fred and Carmella Tarasco; brother, Joe (Julia) Cassano; sister, Grace (Kenneth) Hull; brother-in-law, John Candileri. He is survived by his son, Gary (Doreen) Tarasco; grandchildren, Ashley and Cody Tarasco; sister, Peggy Candileri; sister-in-law, Joyce Steele; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; beloved pet, Harley.
Growing up in the heart of west side Rochester, NY, Dom devoted some time to his joy of boxing. Soon to start working to help the family. As a teenager, Dom enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served his country during the Korean War era as a service maintenance mechanic on B-47 bombers. Honorably discharged in 1956 as one of the youngest staff sergeants of his time.
He now had a wife and son to think about, and always managed to provide the best that he could even if it meant working two jobs at a time. Settling back in Rochester, the family grew with the birth of his second son four years later. Even though there seemed to be so much to handle day to day, Dom would make time for family vacations and had a passion for bowling. Finally finding his real calling in life, Dom became a reputable furniture salesman and prided himself on his sales of Oak furniture most of all, he became recognized as the “Oak Guy”. This passion for the industry kept Dom busy almost into his eighties!
Once again, even while working in his later years, nothing could stop him from making time for rest and relaxation. As avid Yankee fan for several years, he would jump at the chance to see his bombers play ball in Toronto. Let us not forget the Broadway shows, and those fantastic bus tours to the casinos. Yes, he was a pretty lucky guy, he would feel grateful to come home even, but he seemed to hit something on every other trip.
As a veteran, Dom had the opportunity to be one of the guests on Honor Flight 56 out of Rochester, NY. He returned from that trip as a renewed man most thankful for all the praise and honor he received like all of the VETS fortunate enough to be on that same flight. Now back to his favorite passion, the love of the game of “Euchre”. Dom enjoyed this game so much that 5 days a week was not uncommon for him for many years. These opportunities brought so many new friends in various playing circles. For even more relaxation, an extended visit or two with his granddaughter in sunny Florida was always welcomed. We’re quite confident a trip to Colorado to visit his grandson would not have been out of the question if his health would have allowed that trip. This great man also gave of his time to help in a local food pantry, and to attend and or speak at various veteran’s events.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of volunteers and nursing personnel that provided the best possible quality of life and care that such a special man could have expected.
Friends may call MONDAY from 3-7PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates. On Tuesday, February 1, all are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 9:30AM at St. Theodore’s Church. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Aurora House Comfort Home, 2495 S. Union St., Spencerport, NY 14559 in his memory(http://aurorahousewmc.com/contributing).
