Obituary for Eleanor L. Lippa (Loomis)

Eleanor “Elly” “Miya” Lippa passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph, and her children, Patricia (John) Rybczak, and Peter Lippa; brother, Jim (Christine) Loomis; grandchildren, Alexander (Jenny) Rybczak, Dr. Cynthia (Mark) Gee, Kathryn (Constantine) Kapatos and Elizabeth (Brian) Dell; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gee, Jack, Vito and Louis Rybczak, Spiros and Penelope Kapatos, Theodore and Thomas Dell. She is predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Olga and Christ Broikou and Katherine and William Sexton.

Elly was the daughter of a Greek immigrant family (Petros and Konstantina Loomis) from Florina, Greece. Elly was a Madison High School graduate, class of 1949 (She still has the sweatshirt to prove it!) - where she met and married her high school sweetheart Ralph. She worked at Star Supermarket in her early days before becoming a school bus driver for the Churchville-Chili School District for 25 years.

Most knew Elly for her outspoken and independent personality. She loved having a good time and was sometimes the life of the party! She loved playing poker with her card club for over 50 years. She loved traveling the world with her husband. There were many vacations to the Dominican Republic with family. She loved to be on the beach watching people and sipping champagne. She was a long-standing member of the Delta Phi sorority and hosted many Christmas brunches for the members.
Elly took a lot of pride in her appearance and had an eye for good fashion. She loved getting her hair and nails done regularly, sometimes taking her grandchildren with her for fun!

Elly was a devoted grandmother and friend, often going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, making Sunday dinners, hosting holidays and spending summer days at the pool. She deeply valued her girlfriends, some of which she knew all her life. They became part of her extended family.

The funeral service was held privately for immediate family.

If you’d like to donate in her memory, donations can be made to: Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church, 835 South Avenue, Rochester, New York 14620.
