Obituary for Harvey Martin "Marty" Johnson

Johnson, Harvey Martin “Marty”
Greece: Born 6/8/1947, passed away peacefully on Friday morning September 29, 2023. He passed while the sun shone in his room at Highland Hospital. His wife held his hand as he took his last breath. He is predeceased by his parents Vesta and Robert Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evie; his daughter Nikki and son in law Chris McDonald; his two granddaughters, Ryan and Charlie; his younger sister Christine (Donald) Bennett. He leaves behind his best friend of more than 50 years, Michael (Kathy) Bellapianta, and many other friends that were more like family.
He graduated from Irondequoit High School and lived in Rochester. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Where he broke his toe after dropping an oil drum on it. He was sailed to Hawaii where he finished his contract in medical holding. He married Evelyn on April 25, 1969, in a civil ceremony in Hawaii. They lived on the island for two years. They came back to Rochester and had their only child Nikki. He was a salesman for decades in the video business, working for Artec and finally for Paramount Pictures. He worked with and for many people who became more like family. At 69 years old he was diagnosed with a mild cognitive disorder, that led to his final diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. He was able to go on one final family trip to Disney World in September 2019. He was able to enjoy the time with his wife, daughter, and granddaughters. He was kind and caring into his final days. Making sure that his family knew he loved them.
His Memorial Visitation will be Wednesday, October 11 from 3:00- 6:00 pm at DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. His Military Service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Outreach Center, 447 South Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 (veteransoutreachcenter.org) in his memory.
His family would like to thank the staff at Highland for taking care of him while he was there.
