Chili: Peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at age 87. Predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Chipre) Vetere. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Mannella) Vetere; children, John Jr. (Vicki) Vetere, Robert (Shirley) Vetere, Karen (James) Willman; grandchildren, Daniel Vetere, Christina (Michael) Steigerwald, James Vetere, Robert Jr. (Dawn) Vetere, Mark Vetere, Carolyn Vetere, Eric (Jamie) Willman, Adam Willman (fiancée, Liz Porcellio); great grandchildren, Owen Steigerwald, Leah, Mason, Isabel and Joseph Vetere, Taylor and Levi Teegarden, Remi Jo Willman; sister, Toni (Ralph) Vito; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was born and raised in Rochester by his Italian immigrant parents, Frank and Marie. Having served in the US Army during the Korean War, John returned home to raise his family. John lived a full life as a Catholic and a member of St. Pius X Church in Chili. His greatest joy was his family. He was a talented musician and played in the US Army Band. Throughout the years, he continued to enjoy playing in a band and entertaining family and friends with the accordion, clarinet, piano and saxophone. Gardening and golf were among his favorite pastimes. He was a long-time member at Brooklea Country Club. Deerfield Beach was home in the winter months. John was blessed by family and many friends. John enjoyed a successful career with Wegmans spanning 4 decades. Starting as a bag boy, through hard work, he assumed numerous positions culminating as President of Chase Pitkin and Vice President of Wegmans.

Friends may call WEDNESDAY from 4-8PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates. On Thursday morning, March 21, all are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. Pius X Church. Interment, Grove Place Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to American Cancer Society, 1120 South Goodman St., Rochester, NY 14620 or to St. Pius X Church, 3000 Chili Avenue, Rochester, NY 14624 in his memory. “Thank you to the U of R staff of Oncology and Palliative Care Units. Their care and compassion touched us all.”
