Obituary for Joseph M. Wattie

Joseph Maurice Wattie, age 45, of Battle Creek, Michigan, (formerly of Rochester, NY) on January 2, 2024, at home, after a nine month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 19 years, Breeze (Rogers) Wattie; sons, Skylar (Nicole) Wattie, Jonah Wattie, Vincent Wattie, and Giovanni Wattie; daughters, Gianna Wattie and Isabella Wattie; granddaughter, Lakelyn Wattie; parents, Joseph and Geraldine (Marcucci) Wattie; sister, Jennifer Wattie (Dave); brother, James (Amanda) Wattie; grandmother, Josephine (Clementi) Wattie; father-in-law, Lynn Rogers, mother-in-law, Dawn Rogers; sister-in-law, Bambi (Brad) Stalker; and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Maurice Wattie and Anthony and Isabel Marcucci.
Starting in high school, Joe dedicated 25 years of his life to Sam’s Club, where he held positions in every department before his intuition and vision for change landed him as Asset Protection and Compliance manager for the last 10 years of his career at Sam’s. He spent his final year before diagnosis making a difference as a manager for CVS. He attended Monroe Community College and graduated with Regents from Spencerport High School in Rochester, NY. He was a lifelong learner and immersed himself in any subject that he found interesting, or would help improve the workplace environment.
His deepest love was for his family whom he worked tirelessly to protect and provide for. He showed his love through creative gift giving and amazing cooking. He was a jokester and his laugh and smile were contagious. He collected Mad magazines, coins and vintage toys. He loved spending time outside marveling at God’s creation, especially in the Autumn months. Joe was an extremely generous man who always had his eyes open for someone he could bless. He will be loved and missed always.
All are invited to attend Joe’s Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd. In lieu of memorials, donations in loving memory of Joey may be directed to Joey Wattie’s Kids Fund via Venmo @Breeze-Wattie in his memory.
