Obituary for Kelsi Rain Cleary-Wilcox

Cleary-Wilcox, Kelsi Rain
Pittsford: Kelsi Rain Cleary-Wilcox, 30 years old, passed away on December 1, 2022. She was predeceased by her grandfather, George Wilcox with whom she had a special relationship, who passed earlier this year, and uncle, Joseph Cleary, Jr. She left behind her mother and father, Mary Beth Cleary and Eric Wilcox; brothers, Quinnlin Wilcox, Torin Wilcox and Everett Wilcox; grandparents, Marianne Wilcox, Esme and Joseph Cleary; uncles and aunts, Michael and Kathryn Cleary, Justin and Linda Wilcox; cousins, Evelyn and Brennan Wilcox, and Makenna and Brendan Cleary.
Kelsi was born on November 29,1992 in Dallas, Texas. She was the first child of Eric and Mary Beth and the first grandchild and niece/nephew on either side of the family. Suffice it to say, she quickly became everyone’s favorite person, and it was easy to love her because she was so incredibly loving and funny. Her jokes would knock you out of your seat in laughter because you wouldn’t think a small child could know enough or have enough perspective and timing to be that quick-witted. She never met a lap she didn’t want to sit on or a set of arms she didn’t want wrapped around her.
Growing up Kelsi loved animals and nature. She picked out every family dog (or often they picked her) and loved them dearly. She loved hiking with her family, whether it was in a local park or part of bigger adventure, and she would often narrate the excursion entertaining anyone who was with her.
Her love of music and art started as a child and continued through her life. She went to many concerts as a child with her family and by the time she was a teenager she was regularly attending music festivals with her friends – laughing, twirling a light-up hula hoop, and having fun. She had a great fashion sense and she enjoyed drawing, painting, ceramics and jewelry making. But perhaps more than the technical aspects of art, she was incredibly creative in her overall thinking and way of being. Kelsi was fiercely independent and was a bold, free spirit that would not be contained.
Kelsi attended Pittsford Sutherland High School and was a 2011 graduate. She was a good student, taking all of the AP courses that you would imagine and a varsity Cross Country and Track & Field athlete and captain. She enjoyed her part time job working as a barista at a local coffee shop in the Village of Pittsford and was reliable, responsible and loved by the “regulars”. Kelsi went on to dual major in molecular, cellular & developmental biology and psychology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, before she became ill.
Over the last 12 years Kelsi showed immeasurable strength in living with her mental illness. Most aspects of her life changed in these years but there was one aspect that was unwavering: the love she had for her brothers Quinnlin, Torin and Everett. They were her light.
