Berard, Mary L.
Friday, June 19, 2020 in her 100th year. Born in Celano, Italy on June 21, 1920. She immigrated to Rochester with her family in 1929. Predeceased by her parents, Angelo and Concetta Berardicurti; brother, Neil (Connie) Berardicurti. She is survived by her loving sister, Theresa (Jack) Ange; nieces and nephews, Donna (Peter) Coules of GA, Debbie (Steve) Mance of OH, Mary Jo (Dan) Ruffalo of NC, Paul (Darlene) Berardicurti, Tom (Charlene) Berardicurti; many great nieces, great nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Mary was a 1939 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a trailblazer for women. She began her career with School Pictures Inc. in 1941. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to Production Manager – 2nd in command. She retired in 1982 and continued to work part time at Xerox in the cafeteria. She loved to travel and was able to travel the world both personally and professionally. She was a member of the Gates Amita Club. At the age of 90, she moved into the Atria where she lived independently until her recent illness.
Mary believed she was born under a lucky star. We saw her extraordinary memory, generosity, kindness, and strong spirit never diminish and never left her.
Her words and the ones she lived by up through the end: “The good outweighs the bad in each person. Each day is a gift – live it to the fullest and always discover something new. Don’t take anything for granted. Lastly, happiness is available to us each day--loving, hugging and laughter is the best medicine”. She was our biggest cheerleader, loved fiercely and unconditionally, an inspiration to those she crossed paths with, and greatly appreciated all those she left behind. We were graced by her presence, her love and her support.
Services and interment will be held privately with her family. Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at Atria for their loving and compassionate care for the past 10 years, and all of the special people who assisted her throughout her life.
