Obituary for Nicholas "Nick" Brongo Sr.

BRONGO (Sr.), Nicholas

Nicholas (Nick) Brongo passed away peacefully with his family October 10, 2021. Born in 1930, in Rochester, NY, son of the late Anthony and Mary (Colaruotolo) Brongo. He is survived by his 6 children: Sandy (John) McDonald of Fairport, NY; Nick (Carol) Brongo Jr of Thendara, NY; Rebecca (Henry) Elsasser of Poughkeepsie, NY; Barbara Kalin of Southport, NC; Marie (Duane) Thompson of Lima, NY; Amy (Jeff) Newman of Chevy Chase, MD; he is also survived by his two brothers, Louis (Anna Marie) Brongo and Robert (Anne) Brongo, both of Spencerport. He is predeceased by his two sisters Carm Eckert and Rose Borelli and also his 7 brothers: Frank, John, Charles, Ralph, Joseph, Samuel and Larry along with Joshua (grandson) and Chelsea (great granddaughter).

Nick resided most of his life in Spencerport, growing up with his 11 siblings on the family’s 42 acre farm. He was a naturally loving, kind, and gentle man who would give the shirt off his back. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Navy Corpsman and later worked in produce and egg delivery, with most of his life in real estate as a broker.

Parenthood was not easy for Nick. He raised his children as best he could after finding himself alone in his late 30s. The love and support of his parents and siblings was a tremendous blessing to all six of his children and a living testament to the Italian heritage in which he was raised.

Nick’s kind and gentle soul lives on within his children,14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His golden years were peaceful and accompanied by his long-time partner Monica Goldman. Loving all meals equally, Nick was especially fond of dessert. When warm cherry pie was served, Nick was close by. Forever in our hearts and minds, Nick Brongo will rest in the arms of our lord.

Friends are invited to call Friday, October 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Spencerport Road, Gates, NY. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theodore Church, 168 Spencerport Road. A private burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
