Obituary for Philomena Lupiani (Ricci)

Lupiani, Philomena (Ricci)
Gates: passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2019, surrounded by many of her children and grandchildren. She is remembered as a patient, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was 99 years old. She was predeceased by her husband Daniel A. Lupiani and her siblings Domenica, Geremia, Lazzare, and William Ricci. She is survived by her 12 children and their spouses: Mary (Gregory) Farrell of NJ, Daniel (Jean) Lupiani of IL, Joseph Lupiani, Phyllis Lupiani, John (Frances) Lupiani, Elizabeth Lupiani, Michael (Sandra) Lupiani, Bernadette Tomasso, Francis Lupiani, Christine Lupiani, Ann (Lonnie) Kaczka, Helen (William) Fallon of NJ; 30 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
A beloved matriarchal figure, she was actively involved with her children and grandchildren of all ages, seeing them often for Sunday dinner and other frequent visits, or regular FaceTime chats with those living at greater distances. During gatherings and celebrations when the house was overflowing, she and her late husband were known to say they were “reapin’ the rewards” of having a large family.
Philomena worked as a nursing assistant prior to her marriage to Daniel Lupiani in 1943. When her youngest children entered elementary school, she was a “lunch mother” at Holy Family Elementary School and was known to many of the students and her children’s friends as “Mrs. Loop.”
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates. On Thursday, October 10, all are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 15 St. Mary’s Place. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620 in her memory.
