Obituary for Richard C. "Rick" Sweeting

Sweeting, Richard C. “Rick”
Greece: Peacefully, on Saturday, September 25, 2021, after an extended illness, at age 69. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda (Panarites); siblings, Tim (Tracey), Nancy (Patrick) Farrell, Paula (Bruce) Parker, Terri Bourne, David Brower, Brad (Carol), Doug and Ellen Sleeman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Jane Panarites; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; Kookie, Mags and Rey. He is predeceased by his parents. Beverly Brower and Richard D. Sweeting; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn [Lissow} and James Panarites.
Rick was an outstanding athlete all his life and was among the inaugural group of alumni inducted into the Hilton High School Athletic Hall of Fame. As an adult, he played softball, racquetball, squash, and golf. He loved playing golf and made many good friends over the years at Brockport, Stafford, and most recently, Brook Lea Country Club.
He had an interest in all sports and was a loyal SU and Bills fan. He enjoyed a good cigar, Negronis, Fall trips to The Point and the Whiteface Lodge, Christmastime in NYC, many family gatherings and holidays with the Lissow side of the family whom he loved very much, and anything Star Wars.
Rick loved his pets, all of whom “chose” him, but he had a special bond with his late cats Roy and Patches. He was committed to feeding wild birds and enjoyed watching them along with other wildlife that wandered through the back yard.
He spent much of his career in the brick industry, where he also made many good friends, and had retired from Redland Brick Company.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Panarites/Sweeting Family Endowed Scholarship c/o SUNY Oswego, 215 Sheldon Hall, Oswego, NY 13126 (Check made to: Oswego College Foundation, Inc.) which is awarded to an entering student from either Hilton or Spencerport High Schools.
Many thanks to Dr. Omar Aljitawi, every single one of Rick’s care team at the Wilmot Cancer Center Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, WCC 6, and URMC Home Care for all the wonderful care they provided over the past few years, right up to the end.
