Obituary for Richard A. "Rick" Egan

Egan, Richard A.
Spencerport: Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at age 67, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Predeceased by his father, Edwin Egan. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn (Romano) Egan; son, Brian Egan; beloved mother, Dorothy Egan; brothers and sister, Gary (Therese) Egan, Kathleen (Michael) Green, James (Barbara) Egan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Dirk Madden; nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Emily Egan, Ryan (Kelly) Green, Julia Green, Kyle Egan; great niece, Della Green; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Rick graduated from Gates-Chili High School in 1975 and went straight to work at The Genesee Brewery where he worked his way up to a management position in Quality Control. He was well liked and respected by his co-workers and made many friends during his time at “The Brewery”, before retiring at age 56.

In 1984, Rick and JoAnn spent their honeymoon in Bar Harbor, Maine and fell in love with the area. They vacationed there every year and eventually decided that this would be the spot they would build their “forever/retirement” home! They purchased land in Lamoine, Maine that is situated on the ocean coast, just north of Bar Harbor. They drafted plans for a beautiful log home and began construction five years ago. One of Rick’s greatest joys was working on their Maine home. Much of the work on the home was done with his own hands. Only a few small projects remain. Rick could fix or build anything. One of his passions was woodworking. He made furniture, custom corn hole sets, and restored antique items; the most recent being a Radio Flyer Sled in October, to be hung on the wall of their home in Maine.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. In his younger years he and his dad would hunt in the Southern tier with uncles, friends, and cousins. He eventually purchased his own hunting land in Granger, NY where he would hunt with his son, Brian.

Rick also loved to cook. Whether it was on the grill or on the stove, you could always count on Rick to make a hearty meal, delicious lobsters and seafood, or the perfect Thanksgiving Turkey.

Rick was also a faithful Buffalo Bills fan, cheering on his team week after week, year after year.

Rick was loved by everyone he met. He always had a smile and an easy way about him. He became fast friends with his neighbors both at home and in Maine. He was the guy you called when you needed help, needed something fixed, or just wanted to have a beer. His presence will be missed dearly by his loving family, lifelong friends, and his Maine Coon Cats, Spencer, Jack, and Randy, who were his joyful companions

Friends may call THURSDAY from 2-5PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates, where his funeral services will follow at 5:00PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Rochester General Hospital Hematology and Oncology Clinic, 1425 Portland Ave., Rochester, NY 14621 in his memory.
