Monteleone, Rosalie

Rosalie Theresa Monteleone passed away on the 24th of November 2023 at age 103 near her daughter’s home in middle Tennessee. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Monteleone; her parents, Salvatore and Santa (Fagone) Mondello; her siblings, Marietta, Grazia, dearest Angelina, Gaetano, and Sebastiano; and her first husband Emilio Randazzo. Mrs. Monteleone is survived by her sons John A. (Susan), Ronald J. (Barbara) and Gregory J. (Deborah), and daughter Nanette M. Yarris (Jeff), grandchildren Alissa (Dan Banks), Matthew (Nancy), Brian (Sarah), Adam (Roxanne), Dean (Tara), Ryan, and Erin Allen (Brian), plus eight great grandchildren.

Rose was born on 7 Oct 1920 in Scordia, Sicily and immigrated to the U.S. with her family as an infant. She grew up in Manhattan NYC where her father owned several barber shops that were lost to the Great Depression. She often visited her beloved nieces Mary and Santa in Summit, NJ. As a young woman she darned stockings for the Rockettes and the Broadway stars. In 1942 Rose married Leo who died on Okinawa. Then in 1945, she married Angelo, her husband of 70 years. They moved to Rochester, NY in 1948. Rose retired from E.I. Dupont after nearly 20 years of service. She was a lifetime prolific reader who grew beautiful gardens and enjoyed knitting and other crafts. Rose was a member of the Italian American Community Center and loved bowling, dancing, Dean Martin and Jerry Vale music, slot machines, and TV game shows. Rose and Angelo had a lifelong tradition of traveling, vacationing, and visiting with family.

Friends may call SUNDAY, December 3, from 1-5PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. On Monday, December 4, all are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 11:00AM at Parish of the Holy Family Church, 4100 Lyell Road. Entombment, Riverside Cemetery.
