Obituary for Ruth E. Wetzel (Evans)
Wetzel, Ruth E.
(1939-2024)
Formerly of Canandaigua, Conesus Lake and Gates, NY passed away Thursday, February 15th. Ruth was born November 24, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pa. to John M. and Ida Evans. She attended Gettysburg College with a major in Chemistry but left Gettysburg to marry and serve her country in Germany with her husband Don. She later completed her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education through Empire State College and was named Head Teacher and Administrator for the Rochester Area Preschool in Gates, NY. There she fell in love with everyone of her young students until she retired from the “best job a teacher could have” in 1999. The positive influence she had on hundreds of young people will live on forever.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents John and Ida Evans, a brother John Evans. Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald, three children, Scott (Theresa) of Pinehurst, NC, Lisa (Anthony) Gianni of Livonia, NY and Jeff (April) of Venice, Fl. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Brittany (Taylor) McKusick of Waxhaw, NC, Mariesa (Justin) Simon of Weedsport, NY, Dr. Shannon (Thomas) Bryant of Cary, NC, Anthony Gianni of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lindsay (Tom) Gorter of Charlotte, NC. The light of her life were her seven great-grandchildren Ella, Jaxson, Elise, Allen, Nora, Logan and Brooks. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Eden.
Calling hours will be from 10:00AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc. 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. with a prayer service to follow at 12:00 Noon .
