Gates: Monday, September 6, 2021, at age 95. Predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Pizzo) Farace; parents, Michele and Maria Faraci (Farace), father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sam and Josephine Pizzo, brothers and sister-in-law, Louis Farace & Michael (Hazel) Farace; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anne DiSarra, and Frank & Mary Pizzo.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Melanie) Farace & Joy (Rick) Ott; grandchildren, Jennie Farace and Jessie (Jason) Dangle, Michael (Kaylie) Ott, David (Kelsey) Ott and Brian Ott; great grandson, Easton Dangle; sister and brothers -in-law, Grace (Eddie) Turner and Louis DiSarra; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sam was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He served in the military (Army) and had a 25-year career as a Detective with the Rochester Police Department, working in the area of juvenile justice, retiring in 1984. Sam received many awards and accolades over his years of service and was selected as Youth Officer of the Year in 1983 by the State of NY Police Juvenile Officers Association for his extraordinary dedication to the youth of the city. He also served on the board of the Juvenile Detention Center in Industry NY. After retirement, as a snowbird in Greenacres FL, he worked with the West Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office as a Citizen Observer Patrol volunteer.
Friends may call Friday, from 3:00- 6:00 pm at DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates. On Saturday, September 11, all are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 9:30 am in St. Theodore's Church, 168 Spencerport Road. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Legal Aid Society of Rochester, 1 West Main St., Rochester, NY 14614 or Wilmot Cancer Institute, 300 East River Road, PO Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627 in his memory.
